Paul Andersen

Nearly 20 years as a sports massage therapist — deep tissue and sports-injury work, not a spa rubdown.

Clientele runs from weekend runners to elite athletes. I collaborate with trainers and chiropractors when the plan needs more than the table — back-pain restrictions, tendon load, and the adhesions that keep a muscle from firing.

Sessions are built around the sport, the position, and the next hard day. In-studio in Los Altos, or as a mobile sports massage when you cannot travel.

What is myofascial massage therapy?

Your muscles do not work alone. They are surrounded, supported and connected by fascia, the connective tissue that runs throughout the body.

Think of fascia as a three-dimensional network rather than a single sheet. It separates structures, transmits force, and lets one layer of tissue move against the next. Myofascial release is manual therapy for that network, from the superficial layers down, so restricted tissue can lengthen and glide again.

How I can help

Client-centric approach

I keep the communication clear and the work results-oriented. Managing pain. Improving stability. Getting you back to the thing you actually want to be doing. Whatever brought you in is what the session gets built around.

Understand the work

For Serious Athletes

Strong, precise work for athletes who demand more

When foam rolling and a light rubdown do not cut it, I deliver the deep, firm, precise sports massage serious athletes rely on. Nearly 20 years of sports-injury therapy, including work with elite competitors, means deep tissue that reaches adhesions, back-pain restrictions and the muscles that stop firing after a hard block.

Firm, deep pressure

Genuine deep-tissue strength that reaches the layers a lighter massage can’t, dialed to exactly what your body can take.

Pinpoint precision

Anatomically precise work on the specific muscles, tendons and trigger points holding your performance back.

Built for your sport

Every session is shaped around your sport, your position and your goals, then progressed until you can tolerate the load your sport asks for.

We start with a range-of-movement approach and address the soft tissue that is restricting that movement.

The goal is to bring circulation back into the soft tissue so it becomes pliable and stable again. That is what lets the body engage the way it is supposed to.

Sports massage therapy is not just beneficial to athletes, but to anyone with pain or injury.

  • Shoulder injuries / rotator cuffs

  • Golfer’s / tennis elbow

  • Whiplash

  • Back pain and sciatica

  • IT band syndrome

  • Hamstring injuries

  • Achilles tendinitis

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Sport-related injuries

  • Overuse injuries

  • Lack of mobility

  • Stress-related muscle tension / joint stiffness

  • Hip / hip flexors / quads

  • Adductor / pelvic floor

MY MISSION

Unlocking Your Potential ✦ Restore Movement ✦ Build Resilience ✦ Live Without Limits

To help athletes and people of every activity level move beyond pain, recover from injury and rebuild what their body can do. Through sports therapy and rehabilitation, I help people restore movement, build resilience and get back to the activities they enjoy.

My background includes working with elite athletes. I have helped optimize performance and recovery for players in a range of sports and positions, which gives me a clear understanding of what each of them asks of a body.

Most of the injuries I treat are muscular in origin.

In those cases I see a high rate of resolution. That is not a claim about one technique. It comes from a comprehensive approach, from working alongside other practitioners, and from clients who do the work between appointments.

My treatment goes beyond the immediate symptom.

An injury affects more than the exact spot where pain is felt, so I look at the contributing factors and build a plan meant to restore function and reduce the chance of the same thing happening again. Where a chiropractor or an athletic trainer should be involved, I bring them in. Spinal manipulation and rehabilitation exercise do things my hands cannot, and the combination works better than any of us alone.

The key, though, is your participation.

Your body does much of the actual healing. Following the plan, doing the prescribed exercises and making the lifestyle changes is what produces the outcome. Open communication and regular follow-up let me monitor progress and adjust as we go. Stretch. Move. Recover. Rebuild.

My Process

Ready to start your journey?

Call or text me and tell me what is going on. That is how you book your first session.

1.

We work one-on-one to define the issue and build the plan: assess, treat, mobilize, stretch, strengthen, reload.

2.

With consistent, targeted work, and the movement you do between sessions, the change starts to hold.

3.

Your questions answered

  • Anything comfortable and loose. Sweatpants, shorts, whatever you can move in. A cotton shirt if possible.

  • I always work within your threshold. The work can be intense, but it should be productive intensity, not damage, and you should be able to breathe through it. My goal is to free up stuck soft tissue so it returns to a healthy, functional, active state.

  • Often, yes, though it takes a team effort. Everyone has to take part. I do the hands-on work. Stretching and conditioning between appointments is your part, and it is what makes the change hold. Recovery is a process, not a single treatment.

  • Yes. Where an injury needs medical evaluation first, I will say so. Always feel free to ask for clarification.

  • Zelle, Apple Pay, cash or check.

★★★★★
“Paul is awesome, I can’t imagine a better sports massage. I am “big boned” so to speak, and so to have someone willing to go the extra mile to work out decades old knots is a God send. I highly recommend you book a session with Paul to work on old injuries and tight muscles.”

★★★★★
“I highly recommend seeking deep tissues treatment with Paul. He has a very specific style that I very much appreciate and have not seen in the many other fantastic body workers I have worked with over the years. He cares deeply about seeing his clients improve. I feel his skills are best suited for folks specifically looking to see changes in their body vs a general, relaxation focused massage. My partners and I (we own a fitness business) refer MANY clients to Paul due to this effectiveness. All of this to say, we know top quality when we see it, and Paul is it.”
